Today’s workdesk show me busy working on color mixing exercises from Polymer Clay Color Inspirations. The above photo was taken Tuesday afternoon.  I was just getting started.

And here they all are, nearly done.  Phew!  That little pink thing is my fancy-schmancy 1/4″ cutter.  In its former life it was a marker cap. 🙂

This latest exercise is rather fascinating as all the colors you see are mixed from just three primaries.  (Plus white for the pastels.)

I’m so glad I had the pasta machine for mixing, or my fingers would be quite sore by now!

If you have a little time, be sure to head over to Julia’s and check out what’s going on at the workdesks of creative folks from all over the world.

  1. I have ot played with polymer clay in ages and I was lucky enough to do a workshop with Laurie Mika too when she came to Australia. Your work is amazing I have been checking out some stuff in your sidebar. It’s incredible how there are expensive cutting tools and accessories around but we always find something simple to use and in the process upcycle. Thanks for sharing, it’s been great.

    Happy WOYWW

  2. These colours are gorgeous! I think I have some of this clay somewhere – must hunt it out and have a go! Thank you so much for sharing – especially that ‘cutting edge’, ‘state of the art’ tool!!! Lol! Great stuff! Julie Ann xx #39

  3. Yeah! This looks so very yummie, all the colors and to see them together is just gorgeous. And I love the journal that peeks out on the top right 😀 Happy WOYWW, Suzanne

    1. I know, Judy, there just isn’t time to try everything, is there? I’m finally learning to focus, but it’s hard.

  4. wow you have been busy and your right your hands would have been very painful by now, what will you make from all the colour pieces?
Enjoy WOYWW today and have a great week

    1. All the pieces will be made into beads which will be strung into a color reference tool. I’ll post pics of it when I’m done.

  5. Wow, those are beautiful! (As everyone else noted above.) What are you going to make out of the polymer clay next?

  6. wow this is all looking really interesting Sandy…love the colours and the pasta maker sure did a great job. Looking forward to seeing what you make..Cheers RobynO#48

  7. Great colours you’ve made. I’d worry that I’d run out half way through a project and not be able to mix it again! Hugs. Pam#33

    1. That’s the great thing about how methodically these samples are made. Once done you can easily figure out the color recipe for any of them.

  8. What a great exercise! I have done some polymere clay work before and I think they are a real pain to mix and kneed. My hands were not happy with me at all. Good idea to use the pasta machine.

Back from my holidays wishing you happy WOYWW and a lovely week.

    1. I do highly recommend it. If you do, make sure to work through all the exercises. You’ll end up with several tools that will help you in all your future projects.

  9. Oh wow, all the pretty colors are mesmerizing! And I do like your fancy tool, very fine, indeed!
    😉

Thank you for stopping by this woyww, I appreciate your visit and comment!

  10. What a fabulous rainbow of colours, all from 3 primaries. Colour mixing is something that I am becoming very interested in, and I am thinking of doing an online course sometime. Once you get the principles under your belt, it saves a fortune in buying materials because you don’t feel obliged to buy every colour available lol! Your little samples are so beautiful all together, and you should make an artwork from them when you’ve finished.

Thank you for your lovely comment. I agree about the importance of lighting. It’s fascinating looking at colours under different types of light, and seeing how some lights absolutely destroy the difference between colours! Having the right light is also much less tiring on one’s eyes, I find.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
