Good morning, everyone!  To you desk travelers of What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday,  I hope you all have had at least a little chance to be creative this week.

My desk shows me just finishing up a cute little holder for a notepad and pen, with a pocket for storing receipts or whatever. (Click on any of the photos to see a larger image.)

You might not be able to see it, but there is a brand new 1/8″ hole on the edge of my cutting mat.  Why? I was using my Crop-A-Dile to punch a hole for the eyelet and managed to catch my cutting mat with the lower section of the tool.  I couldn’t have done that if I’d tried!  At least it’s on the very edge of the mat.  ===sigh===

organizer-notepad-front

Here’s the front of the completed organizer. I used papers from K and Company’s Que Sera Sera Collection.  Aren’t they yummy?

The stickers are K & Company Susan Winget Meadow Stitched Adornments.  I picked them up on sale at Joann’s today. Luscious!

A close up of the beads. (All of which I had on hand, yay!)

Are you wondering where I got the pink elastic that matches perfectly?

This morning, when it lived at JoAnn’s, it was white. I used alcohol inks to permanently dye it.

To dye little things (beads, pearls, ribbons, buttons) just drop them into a baggie with some Alcohol Blending Solution.  Then drop by drop, add your choice of alcohol inks.  Terra CottaRaisin and Wild Plum made this color.    Perfection!

organizer-notepad-inside

The inside is simple, but quite useful, just a notepad (which can be replaced when used up) a pen and a pocket.

This notepad is a hybrid of two projects from Club Scrap: the  On-the-Go Organizer and the Assignment Notebook.  (I love watching Tricia Morris, she is a fantastic teacher.  Make sure you watch the corner wrapping video as well, it makes a big difference.)

Since the Club Scrap directions are for kits they send out, the videos often don’t give dimensions.  Here are the dimension I used for my project.  It perfectly fits one of those little notepads.

front paper (the yellow print in mine) – 4.5″ x 10.5″
back, spine and left front paper (pink in mine) – 10″ x 10.5″
inside paper (will not cover entire left side) – 8.25″ x 10″
cardboard for front and back covers (cut 2) – 5.5″ x 8.5″
cardboard for spine 0.75″ x 8.5″
notebook pocket – 8″ h x 7.375″ (3/8″) w
left pocket – 6.25″ w x 8.25″ h (In the video, Tricia has you score 2″ up for a 2″ deep pocket, which I thought was skimpy, so my measurements allow for a 3″ deep pocket.)
pencil holder 4″ h x 2.5″ w

Happy Creating and Happy WOYWW!

P. S.  Some of you wanted to see the finished sewing room canvas wall art.

  1. I really like this project. The papers you used are gorgeous. I have dyed ribbon, string, etc. using Staz-on reinkers and a bit of 91% rubbing alcohol, but never AIs. Love what you did with the beads, too. Have a great WOYWW from #9 this week!

  3. That notebook is such a lovely idea and so pretty too. Thanks for your visit today and for your lovely comments. I love Beatrix Potter things too, and I shall get busy doing the insert for that card today. Have a good week. xx Maggie #11

  4. What a fab organiser. I’m always catching things and making holes where I’m not supposed too! Enjoy this week’s WOYWW snoop around the world. Take care Zo xx 81

  5. I had to laugh at the cropodile hole in your mat, you must have realised the pressure was different than normal to cut through that!! Beautiful journal, love all the details but especially the beads.

    1. Actually, the cropodile cuts so easily, I didn’t notice any difference at all. I might have noticed if it had started to make a hole in a body part, lol.

  6. What a lovely notepad! Wonderful colors and great design. I am partial to K and Co though. Oh no about the crop-a-dile hole in the cutting mat. That sounds like something I would do, along with an unnecessary body piercing or two (the crop-a-dile just looks so dangerous).

  7. Beautiful notepad and I love the thread catcher below – I really want to try some multi media stuff. Most of my work is in fabric and I need to try a few different projects. I def need to stock up with some distress stains/ inks etc.

    1. Hi Twig,

I used to pretty much only do sewing & quilting. Then I got into scrapbooking and realized how many of the supplies would work in both worlds. Then came jewelry making and polymer clay. Now I seem to have a little bit of everything, who knows where it will end?!

  8. this is a gorgeous organiser, Sandy – great design, very stylish! Love it. I’ve just commented on your altered thread catcher and got totally carried away – meant to reply to your WOYWW comment here, not there! Anyway, thanks for your lovely comment, and my sister loved the butterfly card and box which I gave her today.

You’ve got soooo much talent! Off to explore some more of your blog!

    1. Hi Janet,

The metal containers are a Tim Holtz product that’s long since been discontinued. I come across them occasionally on clearance. Now he has a new line of holders for our goodies which look very cool.

      Happy Creating!

  10. I love your organiser! I am very much a list person so its right up my street. I’m also planning to come back and watch the tutorials you mentioned, they sound very useful.
    Happy WOYWW

  11. I love Club Scrap (but had to give it up for financial reasons). Tricia makes awesome videos. Love how you combined two projects and made something so lovely and functional.
