Jump rings are one of those basics that you learn about early in jewelry making. It’s convenient that we can buy them ready made by the dozens if not hundreds, but there may be times when you need a particular size, color or wire gauge. So it’s good to be able to make them yourself!
The most basic of tools are all you need. A pair of Flush Cutters and Round Nose Pliers will do the trick.
However, there are a lot of gadgets out there to help simplify the process. I show these two in the video:
These are ones I haven’t tried, but they look interesting:
- Jiffy Jump Ring Tool (This one makes round and oval jump rings.)
- Pepetools Jump Ring Maker Kit (This one has a round saw blade that cuts through the coil, so no turning & snipping with the flush cutters.)
In the video I’ll show you a few different ways to make a wire coil, and then explain how to turn a coil into well-made jump rings.
