Kristina Werner is in the middle of her Holiday Card series for the second year. I’ve got to admire her stamina as she puts up a new card video every weekday for five weeks. And today’s post has THREE cards, wow.
I decided to play along as best I can this year. There isn’t room in the budget right now to go buy a bunch of supplies, so I dug out what I could find. Here’s my first card for today, based on Kristina’s day one design.
First I clear embossed the red paper with the Music Background stamp. Then I went over all the embossing with Barn Door Distress ink, and did just the edges with Aged Mahagony.
The green paper was cut to 1 1/2″ wide and the edges inked with Peeled Paint Distress ink.
The white paper was cut into a slight hill shape and gone over lightly with Vintage Photo ink.
I sanded the edges of the chipboard pieces and went over them with Vintage Photo ink as well. This worked great to make the brightly colored chipboard go with the more muted tones of the papers.
And that’s one of the wonkiest ribbons I’ve ever tied, sheesh.

- Ranger Embossing Powder 1-Ounce, Clear
- red paper – MemoryStor (This was in a 12″x12″ paper pack with tote at Costco. At $20 for 300 double sided sheets, plus the tote, it seemed financially irresponsible NOT to buy it, lol.)
- green paper – K & Company Roam 12-Inch by 12-Inch Paper Pad
- white paper – Seasonal Paper Stash Paper Pad (Tim Holtz)
- Chipboard shapes – DCWV (Joann’s)
- Distress inks – Vintage Photo, Aged Mahogany, Peeled Paint, Barn Door
- brads – long fasteners by Tim Holtz Idea-ology
- ribbon – from a stash left to me by my grandmother, I’ve seen similar ribbons at Michaels & A C Moore
- kraft cardstock
- glue – Mono Adhesive Dispenser Permanent , 3/16-Inch Mini Glue Dots Roll
