Some projects are less about precision and more about letting ideas unfold as you work. This one began as an exploration of movement: how vines curve, how flowers overlap, and how small design choices can bring a surface to life. Working on clear glass adds another layer of challenge and possibility, inviting you to think about composition from every angle and to slow down just enough to enjoy the process.

In this Vines and Flowers Bottles video, we start by creating a petal cane that gives you two different flower looks from one cane, then move into tips for planning your composition. I’ll show you how to add vines, try a different leaf shape, apply flowers in a variety of sizes, and tuck leaves into your design for a more natural look. There’s also a cool little trick for adding flower centers and an important final step so your decoration stays securely attached to the glass.

Sketching plays a small but helpful role here. You don’t need to be good at drawing (I’m certainly not!) If you give yourself permission to make the worst drawings ever, it will let you play and experiment without the pressure of having to make something beautiful.

I’ll show you how to sketch your designs digitally, but a pencil and paper work just as well.
