Got Polymer Clay Chaos? Tips To Organize Your Tools for Max Creativity

We all love those fun tools for polymer clay, things like silk screens, texture sheets, and shape templates, etc. But how to organize them so that you get the most out of them and find what you need when you need it?

I’ve been using a binder system for years that works really well for me.

You can pick up inexpensive 1” binders at the dollar store. Honestly, I think it’s better to have several smaller binders, each with its own category, rather than a big huge binder with several categories.

A simple way to organize silk screens, shape templates and stencils is to purchase page protectors, and also a big package of black card stock from the craft store. Place a sheet of black card stock inside each page protector, then you can fit as many of your tools onto each page as possible.

You can also store random odds and ends in the pockets in the back and the front of the binder.

The black card stock makes the designs clear and visible.

For lumpier tools, like texture sheets, purchase four pocket photo pages, or nine pocket baseball card protectors.

Shameless plug:

The below texture sheet is one I designed, it’s called Sandy’s Spiral and can be purchased at CreateAlong.com

Some texture sheets are too big to fit in the four pocket protectors, these can simply be slid into page protectors, no card stock. The texture sheets will cling slightly to the page protector, keeping them more in order. It isn’t quite so neat and tidy as a pocket, but still keeps them sorted so you can the perfect texture for the project you are working on.

I’m sure you can think of many variations on this theme to sort and organize your particular tools. Please share your ideas so we can all get a little bit more organized and have more time for creating!

Hope you found this helpful. Happy organizing!
