One fun thing about polymer clay is how it can mimic almost any material.
My project today was to follow Desiree’s tutorial on making faux lapis lazuli beads. I used my Bead Roller to make oval beads and then flattened them.
Many of the holes are wonky, but I do love how the colors and patterning came out.
If you could, what kinds of stones or materials would you imitate?
Check back on Monday for day 11 of my Make It In March challenge.
Have a great weekend and happy creating!
Wow, those are beautiful! Does the bead roller make the holes too?
Sadly, no, it doesn’t make the holes. I wish it did as it’s a step I have trouble doing nicely. I’m beginning to think I need to make a bead holding jig for the drill press and do the holes after baking.
Whoa. Then how DO you make the holes?
I make the holes with a needle before the clay is baked. What makes it tricky is that if you do it while the clay is warm from handling, it’s easy to mess up the shape. However, if you let the clay sit for a while and firm up, you can get the blown out holes like I got.

They’re gorgeous, Sandy. So rich and opulent. Any ideas on what you’ll make with them?
Thanks, Ginger! I do have an idea and hope to work on it soon. I promise I’ll share. We’ll see if it looks as good for reals as it does in my head. 🙂
They turned out fab! Look forward to seeing how you use.
