Tim’s tag for July uses a fun technique involving alcohol ink and canned air.  (Check out the link for a video with the details.)

His tag was patriotic, but I decided to make a few birthday cards for guys instead.

After making ink splats with Gold Metallic MixativeSailboat BlueWatermelonSunset Orange and Stream alcohol inks I stamped Ranger Glossy Cardstock with Jet Black Archival Ink using Tim’s The Journey and Curious Possibility stamp sets.

The best way to do this is to stamp larger images first, then fill in the remaining areas with the smaller stamps, collage style. Notice that the Archival Ink doesn’t do as well over the metallic ink.  That may be because I didn’t let it dry long enough.  Since it’s a collage, I didn’t worry about it.

The 8.5″ x 11″ glossy paper was cut into 2.75″ x 4.25″ pieces, enough for eight cards. (They’re all pretty similar, so I’m only showing you two.)

The collage panel was mounted to some colored cardstock and then glued to a Kraft cardstock card base.

The “Happy Birthday” sentiment is from Inkadinkado All Occasions and the Mini Gears were attached with 3/16-Inch Mini Glue Dots.

There you have it, quick and easy birthday cards for guys.

Happy Creating!

    1. I could watch Tim videos all day long. He is such a great teacher and always has new and amazing ideas.

But yeah, I usually do like my own stuff better, too. Glad I’m not the only one who thinks so, lol.

      1. Speaking of which, Tim’s patriotic sentiment (“encourage your hopes, not your fears”) was somewhat off the mark. Patriotism is much bigger than personal aspirations.

        1. Yes, I know what you mean. I bought his set of Word Bands to do my anniversary tag http://keepsakecrafts.net/blog/2012/06/26/woyww-june-tag-2012-vintage-photo-tinting/, but honestly, I don’t know that there are many others in the set that I could use without gagging. I’m so not into sappy, meaningless sentiments.

You can read them all here:

          What do you think?

          1. Yeah, I’m not impressed–they’re shallow and egocentric. But to be fair to Tim, he’s a craft guru; no one expects him to be a life coach. I hope.

  1. Well, when you’re a guru for anything, people will buy into your particular life philosophy. And his “Enjoy the Journey” is quite popular right now.

They want to enjoy the journey, but not think about what happens when it ends. It’s really the same old “Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die.”

Anyhow, my word bands won’t go to waste, I can flip them over and use the blank side. 🙂
