Head pins are one of those most basic of jewelry supplies. Mostly they are used to make bead dangles: A bead or beads are strung onto the wire and something at the other end keeps the beads from slipping off. Then a loop is made to dangle these beads from whatever you like.
Head pins range from plain and simple nail head styles, to artist-made glass, ceramic, metal or other materials. They can be focal points themselves or just supporting players.
Here are a few good quality head pins:
- Sterling Silver Ball Head Pins 24 Gauge 1.5 Inch
- 14Kt Gold Filled Ball Head Pins 24 Gauge 1.5 inch
- handmade lampwork glass leaves head pins on Etsy
- ceramic head pins by Firefly Design Studio

Ooh, I like the glass head pins. They’re probably too big for most projects, but I like to overdo things. 😀
All things in proportion… and “big” is a relative term. You may have noticed that I’m not afraid of chunky jewelry. 🙂
