Happy Wednesday again, everyone! I hope all of you who had the day off for Memorial Day on Monday had a wonderful day and took a little time to remember and give thanks for those who gave all for us.
We had a lovely, quiet day at home. I spent the afternoon planting flowers and the evening sewing.
My new overlocker (serger for those of you who asked) arrived and I’ve been having fun. So far I’ve whipped up the pink denim skirt and a white knit top. Turns out the white knit fabric was a leeeetle bit too thin for comfort, so I’ll need to line it before showing it to the world. And of course I can’t show the skirt without a top, now can I? 😉
Hidden under the left side of the sketchbook is a reversible knit top I’m working on. Why is it reversible? Well, that’s a story for another day.
Also on the desk today is another new thing I’ve been trying, Zentangles. You could call them “doodle art.” I’ve never been much of a drawer, my strengths lie in color and composition, but one thing I learned in art school is that with enough practice anybody can draw. There have been occasions when I’ve wanted to doodle, but always ran out of ideas for designs.
These are kind of fun. You learn a few new patterns every day and they’re actually quite relaxing to do (hence the “Zen” part.)
This is the perfect kind of project to have for those moments you find yourself waiting around and wishing you had a little something to occupy yourself. So, I plan on picking up a small sketchbook that I can keep in my purse.
In case this sounds like something you’d like to try, here’s a link to the book, there are lots of others out there, but so far I’ve been quite happy with this course.
Btw, a few of the reviewers griped about all the supplies listed that you might need. But I’ve found all I need is a sketchbook, a Pigma Micron pen and a mechanical pencil. I also made myself 3.5-inch and 1-inch square templates out of index cards.
Wondering why I posted a photo of my workspace? Believe it or not, there are those out there who are interested! We meet up every Wednesday over at Julia’s for What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday. Many have been inspired, gotten new ideas and even started new friendships and hobbies as a result. Check it out if you have a little time. 🙂
Happy doodling, sewing & creating!
I tried zentangles ONCE. I gripped my pen so tightly because of my arthritis, my fingers went to sleep. I couldn’t straighten them for several hours, so they are NOT zen to me. But I certainly admire what you have made. These are all lovely.
Happy, happy 5th Anniversary from #22.
Oh no, Elizabeth, that doesn’t sound very therapeutic at all. 🙁
I wonder if one of those funky shaped grippers would be helpful?
You come up with the most amazing projects. I’m absolutely going to try the zentangles because I happen to have a sketch book. 😀
What?! You haven’t filled up that sketchbook yet?
Happy WOYWW 5th Anniversary.
I hope you have a good WOYWW. Sue 59
Thanks for the visit, Sue!
I still want an overlocker!! Ah well, I’ll just have to look at yours and lust after it, lol 🙂
Happy 5th WOYWW,
HUgs, LLJ 1 xxxx
You’re welcome to come by and use it any time you like, Jan. 🙂
I would love an overlocker, but really don’t sew enough to make it truly useful, but that never stops me wishing!! I have a couple pocket size classic books that I carry about for times when I would be hanging in the car waiting at school and such, I miss those few moments, the zentangling would be a great calming alternative.
Julia, overlockers are great, you can very quickly sew through a pile of fabric. Of course, you can also very quickly serge off too much seam allowance so your top doesn’t fit. Grrrrr…….
Thanks – I’ll have to put making these on my bucket list. They are lovely and, as you say, probably very therapeutic. Have a lovely week, Chris # 15 xx
Thanks for stopping by, Chris!
Very nice zentangles! I too can not hold a pen/pencil so I’ll leave these to you and I think it’s Shaz in OZ?..one of our Deskers who does these amazing ‘tangles. Look forward to the ‘reveal’ of the top and the pink denim. (wink wink) I like your closing….happy 5th WOYWW -versary! Neat…so I borrowed it. Hugs Nan
Hi Sandy…happy 5th WOYWW, Glad the overlocker has arrived and wow already in use. The Zentangle thing intrigues me too and I’ve had a doodle but I expect a workbook would help and practice. Cheers and have a great week RobynO#35
I am still learning how to use my overlocker… or would be if it wasn’t packed up to be shipped… and I love the idea of the zentangles for those times when you just have to sit and wait… plane journeys would be good! Don’t think I have enough time to get the book before I fly so will keep that idea for another time!! Happy 5th WOYWW Anniversary to you, hugs from Annette #3
I didn’t know there was a book! I am fascinated with the zentagles. I might have to invest in that book. When i finish all my other projects. lol

Hi Sandy, thank you for stopping by my desk yesterday for WOYWW 5! I was interested to see your zentangle…I love pentangle! My friend and I run paper craft workshops and a few months a go we did one on zentangle and our ladies, a bit ‘dubious’ at first loved it..never seen the group so quiet! Enjoy doodling! Carole Z #44
Looks like you are having fun with that awesome serger! I’ve always wanted one of those! And your Zentangles look awesome too. I used to think I couldn’t do these, then I found myself with a lot of time to waste, and good at it! Happy 5th anniversary WOYWW! Lindart #113

Hello Sandy. Goodness me. What a busy lady you’ve been this week. SO much achieved. Well done. Some days I feel I haven’t done much at all – yet still go to bed shattered. Possibly because we are re-adjusting to having John home again after 6 weeks in hospital. It’s gonna take a time, I think. So m bowing out of civilised society at the moment – hence the VERY late visit this week!!
Take care.

My you are busy with the sewing…. Mind you so ( or should I put sew) am I I’m in the middle of a dress as a practice piece for another dress ( makes sense to me )
Love the zentangles, I find them relaxing too that’s a good tip with the notebook.
Thanks for your visit … I’m still playing catch up with visits

Belated happy WOYWW anniversary! I would love to have an overlocker but I doubt if I would use it that much. Yes I believe anyone can draw!
