Welcome to the first post of 2014! I took last week off to do some major home organizing; didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to, but made a good dent in it. (Life, as in two grown sons moving back home, kinda got in the way.)
Anyhow, today’s desk shows one of the bestest gifts I got for Christmas, this amazing magnifying lamp. It’s already been used to remove splinters, read teeny-tiny labels, repair jewelry and to fix some tricky knitting stitches. I love the way I can turn and swivel it to any height and angle. Awesomeness.
Other than that there isn’t anything too exciting on the desk. I teach classes at Joann’s and have a bunch of samples to make. Quilt blocks, baby bibs, bathrobes and the like. Once those are done I’m determined to get back into my claying and making of art jewelry for the Etsy shop. All this with two more people (and two more cats) in the house. It should be exciting!
I hope your 2014 started off well. If you’re wondering why I’ve posted a pic of my desktop, it’s because it’s What’s on Your Workdesk Wednesday, a giant weekly blog hop where we check out the work spaces of creative people from all over. Have a peek, it’s fun!
Happy creating 🙂
Great lamp! Yeah, I could use one of those. Is the weather impeding your classes at JoAnn’s? Good luck with the new living situation.
Hey Robin! Yes, I highly recommend the lamp, it’s much more effective than reaching for the readers.
Most of the Joann’s classes are later in the month, so no impediments yet, we’ll see. Here in Massachusetts it’s a brisk 5° this morning. I’m staying in and sewing!
I don’t know if it will be the new cats or the boys who will cause the most turmoil in the household, lol. Gary & I consider it a) opportunity to minister, and b) all a part of the Lord’s refining process. 🙂
Strange cats thrown together in a new place can be . . . exciting. I have done that. It was . . . interesting.
Next time I have close work to do, I’m going to look into a magnifying lamp. Right now I have FOUR different pairs of glasses for different tasks. It’s ridiculous.
Stay warm!
It’s warming up a bit here. Today was in the 20’s, which felt nearly balmy.
Thank you so much for your sweet and encouraging words today. That’s so neat you teach at Joann’s–I love that store. After working on my quilt pillow, I realize it’s not that easy to make quilt blocks! I guess I need more practice. Hugs! Sandy Leigh #64
Personally, Sandy, I think making clothing is simpler than making quilt blocks. But, yes, keep practicing!
The fabrics on your desk are such great colours 🙂
I hope the living situation works out well
Happy Wednesday

Yeah, it’ll probably take a few cat fights, but they’ll get it settled.
ah thats a lovely bib you have made Lx
Thanks, Leanne. 🙂
Cool lamp! I so want one of those….hey Santa you forgot me…. Take you don’t hurt an elbow with all the extra bodies in the house. Happy WOYWW! Nan G #76
The good news is that son #2 is moving into a new apartment tomorrow. His cats, however, are staying here. 🙂
I am loving your bib! So adorable. That is a great lamp too, I have one similar from my MIL and it helps a lot. I am toying with starting an etsy shop for my cards. Thanks for the kind visit today! Enjoy the week ahead! Winnie#46
The Etsy shop is a good idea, but it’s a fair amount of work. Etsy gives a lot of help to sellers, though. Good luck!
You are so right. A good magnifying light is worth more than it s weight in gold. I could not do my cross stitch without it. I love all the bits and pieces you have shown us this week. I hope your household soon settles down to a sensible routine, cats and all. Thank you for your visit this week and I hope you do not have too much snow over there. We are bathed in sunshine this morning, just prior to another deluge of rain from tomorrow. Have a good week. xx Maggie #24
The cats will probably settle in faster than the people, lol. Enjoy your sunshine!
That really is an awesome lamp! I have a grown daughter that has moved back for a couple of months, love her, but not the whole home invasion thing.
Happy WOYWW!

Yup, I know exactly what you mean, we love them dearly, but really did enjoy the quiet. The good news is that #2 son was moved into an apartment tonight. It’s much closer to where he needs to be and a much better situation. We still have his cats, though. 🙂
