Instead of having applied scales or some kind of tool mark for scales, I&#8217;ve used microbeads. These beads are super tiny, somewhere around 0.5 mm.<\/p>\n<p>To get an idea of the scale,\u00a0Pinkie is only just under 3 inches from the tip of her nose to the bend in her tail.<\/p>\n<p><em>Click on any of the photos for a closer look.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/micro-beads-inspiration.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/micro-beads-inspiration.jpg\" alt=\"micro beads inspiration\" width=\"325\" height=\"459\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was inspired\u00a0by\u00a0this photo I found on Pinterest of the work of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/burkamus\/\" target=\"_blank\">Asya Kuzahmetova<\/a>, a Ukrainian polymer clay artist.\u00a0Here she uses little tiny balls of clay and applies them for a\u00a0wonderful texture.<\/p>\n<p>I had a bunch of microbeads left over from scrapbooking and\u00a0thought it would be fun to try different combinations of the colors\u00a0I had.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/dragons-of-2015\/dragon-40-41-pinky-blueboy-2.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/dragons-of-2015\/dragon-40-41-pinky-blueboy-2.JPG\" alt=\"dragon 41 &amp; 42 Pinkie &amp; Blue Boy 2\" width=\"451\" height=\"338\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pinkie has fuchsia beads, black beads, and two different sizes of clear beads. Blue Boy has a combination of black, fuchsia and royal\u00a0blue beads. I think I like his combination better.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t so thrilled with the way the wings came out as some of the colored beads mixed in with the clear ones and some of the color bled out into the TLS I was using to stick them on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/dragons-of-2015\/dragon-40-41-pinky-blueboy-3.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/dragons-of-2015\/dragon-40-41-pinky-blueboy-3.JPG\" alt=\"dragon 41 &amp; 42 Pinkie &amp; Blue Boy 3\" width=\"450\" height=\"327\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you decide to try using microbeads keep in mind that it&#8217;s kind of like bringing a scoop of beach sand into your work area. They get <em>everywhere<\/em>. You can try, but there is no controlling them.<\/p>\n<p>Everything on my work desk was acting like it had tiny ball bearings under \u00a0it! They were rolling about all over the place, and I&#8217;m sure I will be finding these little teeny beads in my workspace forever.<\/p>\n<p>I do find the idea intriguing, though, for skin texture. She had nice reproductions\u00a0of\u00a0the Lawrence &amp; Gainsborough paintings and she\u00a0even made\u00a0lamp bases\u00a0in her ceramics class with the lady in pink in the boy in\u00a0blue. I don&#8217;t know that she would have cared much for the dragon versions, though, lol.<\/p>\n<p><em>If you\u2019d like to see my other dragon creations so far, I\u2019ve made a <a title=\"Thursday's Dragon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/sandysewin\/thursdays-dragon\/\" target=\"_blank\">Thursday\u2019s Dragon Pinterest board<\/a> just for them.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Just to let you know, I only have 10 dragons left to go in this challenge, but there are 13 Thursdays left in the year. I will be taking off Thanksgiving &amp; Christmas, because Holidays!
