As I&#8217;ve mentioned before, Kate Richbourg is an excellent teacher of metalsmithing. In her book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1596685506\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1596685506&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkId=POCILZXDRZSC2EI6\" target=\"_blank\">Simple Soldering<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=1596685506\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>, she has you make 1-inch square tiles of copper sheet on which you try different techniques. This is your metal &#8220;sampler,&#8221; so to speak.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/woyww\/2015-07-15-woyww-copper-samples.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/woyww\/2015-07-15-woyww-copper-samples.JPG\" alt=\"2015 07 15 woyww copper samples\" width=\"450\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So I spent quite a bit of time learning soldering techniques as\u00a0I worked through these tiles. You might recognize the flower as one from Tim Holtz&#8217;s\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0037CCC4K\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B0037CCC4K\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tattered Florals Die<\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t sure if it would work, but I softened the metal by heating it in the flame, cooled it\u00a0and then\u00a0ran it through my Big Shot die cutting\u00a0machine. Surprisingly, the Big Shot\u00a0was able to cut through the 24 gauge sheet. (I was <em>really<\/em> hoping it would not break my machine!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/woyww\/2015-07-15-woyww-balled-headpins.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/woyww\/2015-07-15-woyww-balled-headpins.JPG\" alt=\"2015 07 15 woyww balled headpins\" width=\"450\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was also fun learning how easy it is to ball up fine silver wire and make my own head pins.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">And now, in other news:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Just to\u00a0let you know, this week is going to be the last time I participate in What&#8217;s on Your Work Desk\u00a0Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been working very hard the past few years to build my little crafting business and, praise the Lord, \u00a0I&#8217;ve finally found a measure of success.<\/p>\n<p>However, with this success also comes a\u00a0need to rearrange my priorities, and I found I needed to eliminate some things. Things that, although I enjoyed them, weren&#8217;t really adding to building my business.<\/p>\n<p>I mentioned a\u00a0while back that I stopped doing the Tim Holtz tag challenge.
