{"id":8,"date":"2009-06-28T10:52:55","date_gmt":"2009-06-28T14:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/?p=8"},"modified":"2016-11-22T18:06:02","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T23:06:02","slug":"album-for-a-first-fathers-day-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2009\/06\/28\/album-for-a-first-fathers-day-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Album For a First Father&#8217;s Day, Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Father&#8217;s Day was my son&#8217;s first.\u00a0 Since he&#8217;s so far away, and hasn&#8217;t been able to see his little one very much, I made him this special album as a gift.<\/p>\n<p>I hope he has as much fun looking at it as I had putting it together!<\/p>\n<p>I was looking for something small that\u00a0my son\u00a0could easily carry and found this Tim Holtz Ruler Book kit, which is just the perfect size.\u00a0The pages are each about 4&#8243; x 4&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p>(These books are no longer being produced, but you can still find a few floating around.\u00a0 Of course, you can easily make your own at any size you want by cutting up a ruler, some chipboard for the covers and trimming cardstock for pages.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-1.jpg\" alt=\"baby book for a first father's day cover\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In his video, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000ELJ3HG?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000ELJ3HG\">The Journey Continues with Tim Holtz<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B000ELJ3HG\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>, he gives step-by-step instructions on how to apply distressed papers to the cover of the book.\u00a0 He has a lot of great tips and helpful hints which could be applied to any project.<\/p>\n<p>To begin, I applied distress inks directly from the pad to each of the pages, distressed the edges of each page with a thread cutter, applied\u00a0Vintage Photo Tim Holtz Distress Ink\u00a0 to the edges and then stamped each page with a background image.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t really thrilled with the dark green vine below, it&#8217;s a little harsh, but oh well, the rest of the pages look good.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-2-3_renamed_31399.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-2-3_renamed_31399.jpg\" alt=\"baby book for a first father's day 2-3\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sugar and spice saying was printed from my inkjet printer onto a transparency (<a title=\"Computer Grafix Ink Jet Film, Clear\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000XALNPI?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000XALNPI\" target=\"_blank\">Computer Grafix Ink Jet Film, Clear<\/a>.)\u00a0 Then I painted <a title=\"Scattered Straw Distress Crackle Paint\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gI54L4\" target=\"_blank\">Scattered Straw Distress Crackle Paint<\/a>\u00a0on the back.\u00a0 (After seeing this terrible writing inside the front cover, one of my dear friends gave me a calligraphy set for my birthday.\u00a0 Hmmmmm . . . .)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-4-5_renamed_14193.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-4-5_renamed_14193.jpg\" alt=\"baby book for a first father's day 4-5\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The saying above is, &#8220;My finger may be small, but I can still wrap my Daddy around it!&#8221;\u00a0 This was also printed on a transparency, but this time I wiped alcohol inks across the back. (I used <a title=\"Cranberry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000WWIFO4?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000WWIFO4\" target=\"_blank\">Cranberry<\/a>\u00a0and <a title=\"Raisin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000WWGF4G?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000WWGF4G\" target=\"_blank\">Raisin<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-67_renamed_3605.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/scrapbooking\/2009-06-joshs-album-67_renamed_3605.jpg\" alt=\"baby book for a first father's day 6-7\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you plan to make a small book like this, you&#8217;ll find it useful to get your photos printed in wallet size.\u00a0 I liked that I had four copies of each pic, so when I messed up, I had three more to go.<\/p>\n<p>The moon and stars above were done with a brass stencil and Dreamweaver Embossing Paste.\u00a0\u00a0(You have to let this paste air dry, don&#8217;t try to hit it with a heat gun, it will bubble.\u00a0)\u00a0 After it dries, put the stencil back over as a mask and apply a little ink to color the shapes.
