It&#8217;s been quite fruitful and productive. I&#8217;ll share some of what I&#8217;ve learned and my observations next week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" alt=\"callie painted coral flowers\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/callie-painted-coral-flowers.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"236\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But on to today&#8217;s project. It had been my plan to make a flower cane, based on a this photo from a seed catalog. \u00a0It&#8217;s called <a title=\"plant dictionary - calibrachoa\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bhg.com\/gardening\/plant-dictionary\/annual\/calibrachoa\/\" target=\"_blank\">calibrachoa<\/a>, and I thought the shading and patterning would be a fun challenge to replicate.<\/p>\n<p>The first step, though, was to find a way to mix that deep, saturated fuchsia. \u00a0So I pulled out my fluorescent colors and made a few mixes. \u00a0(<em>Using\u00a0fluorescents\u00a0to get very saturated colors was recommended by\u00a0Lindly Haunani and Maggie Maggio in their excellent book,\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0823015017\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0823015017&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif;\">Polymer Clay Color Inspirations<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0823015017\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" name=\"graphics18\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/><\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-fuchsia-to-fluorescent-yellow.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" alt=\"color mixing fuchsia to fluorescent yellow\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-fuchsia-to-fluorescent-yellow.JPG\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This row is fuchsia to fluorescent yellow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-sunshine-yellow-to-fluorescent-pink.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" alt=\"color mixing sunshine yellow to fluorescent pink\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-sunshine-yellow-to-fluorescent-pink.JPG\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here we have sunshine yellow to\u00a0fluorescent pink.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-fuchsia-to-fluorescent-pink.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" alt=\"color mixing fuchsia to fluorescent pink\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-fuchsia-to-fluorescent-pink.JPG\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This \u00a0is fuchsia to fluorescent pink. I know it&#8217;s hard to capture with the camera, but that one on the right end is the most screamingest of pinks. Like eye watering. \u00a0Yikes.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s actually quite lovely when mixed with equal parts fuchsia and then with white.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-fuchsia-plus-fluorescent-pink-to-white.JPG\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" alt=\"color mixing fuchsia plus fluorescent pink to white\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/color-mixing-fuchsia-plus-fluorescent-pink-to-white.JPG\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I started my white\/pink blend, but had to stop because the white was way too squidgy to deal with. \u00a0You can see the beginnings of the blend here, I think it&#8217;s going to be gorgeous. \u00a0The clay is sitting on white paper because the paper will leach out some of the excess plasticizer, making the clay more firm and easier to deal with.<\/p>\n<p>So, the flower cane will be tomorrow&#8217;s project. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Have you ever set yourself a creative challenge?
