Meet the newest addition to my polymer clay family, Amethyst or Amelia for short. \u00a0She’s Jasper’s big sister.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s funny, but Jasper<\/a>\u00a0was fairly easy and fun to make. \u00a0Amelia was only completed after much weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Remember last Wednesda<\/a>y when I showed her wings ripped off? \u00a0Yeah, I was frustrated.)<\/p>\n

You see, I was all done and really happy with her when I carelessly picked up the bottle of\u00a0gloss<\/em> finish instead of the satin<\/em> to give her the final coat. \u00a0Gloss just makes these things look like plastic toys.<\/p>\n

===sigh===<\/p>\n

I went over that gloss with satin finish – still glossy. \u00a0I went over it with\u00a0Matte Multi Medium<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>and it was matte – but I wanted a slight sheen, so I went over the matte with satin. \u00a0Guess what? \u00a0It was glossy<\/em>! \u00a0(Yes, I had the right bottle. \u00a0Those bottles are\u00a0very clearly labeled<\/em> as of now.) \u00a0I repeated the matte medium and again, it was matte. \u00a0Did the satin and again, it was glossy<\/em>. Argh.<\/p>\n

Weird, eh? \u00a0I asked hubby, who knows a lot about finishes and he was stumped as to why the glossy kept coming back to the surface.<\/p>\n

Any ideas?<\/p>\n

At this point she had so many coats of finish on her that all detail was lost. Sadly, the original Amelia (who had a much cuter face) ended up being trashed, wings and all. \u00a0I did manage to rescue the rock she’s holding.<\/p>\n

Like I said on Wednesday, I’ll chalk it up to practice and experience. \u00a0Plus, it’s a mistake I’m not likely to\u00a0ever<\/em> make again. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Anyhow, I’m somewhat pleased with her second incarnation and am now ready to move on to a blue dragon. \u00a0Wonder who he’ll turn out to be?<\/p>\n
