Have any of you checked out Craftsy yet? \u00a0I’ve been meaning to do so for a while and finally took a few of their free classes last month. \u00a0I have to say I was quite impressed with the quality.<\/p>\n

\"micro-torch-basics\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The first class I took was\u00a0Micro Torch Basics<\/a>. The teacher,\u00a0Kate Richbourg, was excellent and went into far more detail than I expected in a free class. \u00a0Of course, the class accomplished its purpose. \u00a0It made me want to (a) run out and buy a torch, and (b) sign up for more of her classes!<\/p>\n

Only a stern reminder that I have absolutely no lack<\/em>\u00a0of projects to work on kept me from doing either…. \u00a0for now. \u00a0\ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

\"pizza\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Next, just for fun I tried Peter Reinhart’s\u00a0Perfect Pizza at Home<\/a>\u00a0class. \u00a0Although this isn’t a new subject for me, I learned a few things AND discovered a new must-have cookbook. \u00a0His Joy of Gluten-Free, Sugar-Free Baking<\/a>\"\"\u00a0is the only one I’ve seen that focuses less on the starchy gluten-free flours (most of which I can’t have) and combines that with no refined sugars. \u00a0Awesomeness.<\/p>\n

\"perfect-fit\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Finally, I tried one of their paid classes,\u00a0Sew the Perfect Fit<\/a>. \u00a0The importance of good fit was not something I understood when I first started sewing years ago, but now I think it’s the most important thing. \u00a0Why sew if it doesn’t fit well?<\/p>\n

Lynda Maynard’s teaching is amazing. \u00a0She explains all the steps carefully and clearly, and, most important to me, gives you the logic behind each procedure. \u00a0(If I don’t know\u00a0why<\/strong> I should do a thing, I often don’t bother.)<\/p>\n

\"vogue-8766\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The class even comes with a Vogue pattern, 8766. \u00a0Lynda shows you how to fit it on three very different body types. \u00a0One of my favorite quotes of hers, “The problem is\u00a0never<\/em> the body. \u00a0It’s always the garment that doesn’t fit the body.” \u00a0Isn’t that a great way of thinking?<\/p>\n

So far I’ve only watched the class once. \u00a0The great thing about Craftsy is that once you have taken a class, you can go back and\u00a0re-watch\u00a0it as often as you need. \u00a0This one requires at least a few go-throughs. \u00a0I hope to find a sewing buddy before I get started on the actual fitting process.<\/p>\n

I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes!<\/p>\n

Oh, and while looking up the links for you, I was reminded that I’d signed up for all these free classes but haven’t watched them yet.<\/p>\n
