{"id":4224,"date":"2012-12-05T16:31:48","date_gmt":"2012-12-05T21:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/?p=4224"},"modified":"2012-12-05T21:46:48","modified_gmt":"2012-12-06T02:46:48","slug":"custom-color-dyed-pearls-necklace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2012\/12\/05\/custom-color-dyed-pearls-necklace\/","title":{"rendered":"Custom Color Dyed Pearls Necklace &#8211; Video Tutorial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a technique I&#8217;ve been meaning to try for some time and I was amazed at how beautifully it worked up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/beads-and-jewelry\/custom-dyed-pearls-necklace-still.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/beads-and-jewelry\/custom-dyed-pearls-necklace-still.jpg\" alt=\"custom-dyed-pearls-necklace-still\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have several &#8220;pearl&#8221; necklaces that were my grandmother&#8217;s, but none were at all my personal style. \u00a0Muliple strands of white pearls is just so not me.<\/p>\n<p>But I had read about dying pearls with Rit dye and wondered if it really worked.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/beads-and-jewelry\/custom-dyed-pearls-necklace-close-up-still.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/beads-and-jewelry\/custom-dyed-pearls-necklace-close-up-still.jpg\" alt=\"custom-dyed-pearls-necklace-close-up-still\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turns out, it does. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 Not only is it easy, it&#8217;s\u00a0<em>quick<\/em>, which is quite the bonus. \u00a0 All you need is ten minutes in the dye bath and you&#8217;re good to go.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine making custom pearls to match any focal beads you have on hand. \u00a0Don&#8217;t forget that you can mix the Rit dye colors, as well as over-dye the pearls to get your own perfect custom colors.<\/p>\n<p>Donja just love the infinite\u00a0possibilities?<\/p>\n<p>Happy creating!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Cz79QxSmM1I\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"450\" height=\"336\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Materials:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>For dying pearls:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>21 pearls<\/li>\n<li>Rit Dye in color of your choice<\/li>\n<li>warm water (not boiling)<\/li>\n<li>small glass container<\/li>\n<li>small whisk<\/li>\n<li>paper towels<\/li>\n<li>sieve<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For necklace:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>21 dyed pearls<\/li>\n<li>22 eye pins<\/li>\n<li>focal bead<\/li>\n<li>one decorative head pin<\/li>\n<li>23 5mm jump rings<\/li>\n<li>two 4-inch pieces chain<\/li>\n<li>necklace clasp<\/li>\n<li>chain nose pliers<\/li>\n<li>round nose pliers<\/li>\n<li>wire cutters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>To dye pearls:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Add 2-3 teaspoons of powdered dye to small glass container. Whisk in 1 tablespoon warm water.<\/li>\n<li>Add a small piece of paper towel to bottom of container; then add pearls on top of toweling. Add more warm water to cover pearls.<\/li>\n<li>Allow pearls to sit in solution for 10 minutes; then drain into a metal sieve. Rinse and allow to dry on toweling.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>To make necklace:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Slide a pearl onto an eye pin. Use chain nose pliers to grasp wire just at point where it exits pearl. Bend wire at 90-degree angle.<\/li>\n<li>Grasp bend with round nose pliers and wrap wire around pliers as far as possible to start to make a loop. Reposition pliers to finish loop.<\/li>\n<li>Use wire cutters to trim wire where it crosses beginning of loop.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat to make 20 pearls links.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat steps 1-3 to add focal bead to an eye pin and to make one pearl dangle with decorative head pin.<\/li>\n<li>Connect all 20 pearl links with jump rings. Attach a 4-inch piece of chain to each end of chain of pearls. Add a jump ring to one remaining end of chain and a clasp with a jump ring to other end of chain.<\/li>\n<li>Attach pearl dangle to focal bead with jump ring.<\/li>\n<li>Use a jump ring to attach focal bead to center jump ring of necklace.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a technique I&#8217;ve been meaning to try for some time and I was amazed at how beautifully it worked up.
