My nephew has cancer, he&#8217;s home on hospice, the end is very near, and he&#8217;s only 37. \u00a0It&#8217;s just so hard to believe.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0amidst\u00a0the sadness there have been several happy little things. \u00a0Like the UPS truck pulling into my driveway in the afternoon. \u00a0I knew my entire Amazon order had come, so didn&#8217;t know what this delivery was about.<\/p>\n<p>Good news? \u00a0Bad news? \u00a0Uh-oh.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/may-arts-ribbon-prize.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/may-arts-ribbon-prize.jpg\" alt=\"may-arts-ribbon-prize\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was this, my prize from May Arts ribbon for being a runner up in the <a title=\"Vintage Ribbon Pillow\" href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2012\/02\/10\/vintage-ribbon-pillow-tutorial\/\">February challenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Whoo-hoo, 32 yards of white silk ribbon, just waiting to be dyed, inked or otherwise colored into whatever shade I need. \u00a0Awesomeness!<\/p>\n<p>Then there was this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/wedding-gown-for-fabric.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/wedding-gown-for-fabric.jpg\" alt=\"wedding-gown-for-fabric\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Why did this make me happy?<\/p>\n<p>Well, you see, I decided to join the 1912 Sewing Project,\u00a0a group dedicated to sewing the patterns from the 1912 year of La Mode Illustree, in conjunction with the anniversary of the Titanic.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first pattern I received.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/pattern-covers-and-tutorial-steps\/1912-project-princess-slip-pattern.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/pattern-covers-and-tutorial-steps\/1912-project-princess-slip-pattern.jpg\" alt=\"1912-project-princess-slip-pattern\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that pretty? \u00a0I was happy to get it, and excited to get started, but bummed to discover I needed nearly <em>six yards<\/em> of fabric. \u00a0This is for something I don&#8217;t need and probably won&#8217;t wear. \u00a0It&#8217;s just a challenge, and something interesting to try. \u00a0I can&#8217;t really afford to be buying that much material for this kind of thing, ya know?<\/p>\n<p>So anyhow, back to this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/wedding-gown-for-fabric-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/wedding-gown-for-fabric-2.jpg\" alt=\"wedding-gown-for-fabric-2\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A couple of weeks ago a lady at church asked me if I&#8217;d like an old wedding gown for the fabric. \u00a0She said it was stained and torn in places, but I could possibly use the fabric for linings and such. \u00a0Me, turn down fabric? \u00a0Nuh-uh.<\/p>\n<p>I then proceeded to completely forget about it until my husband plunked two largish boxes in my sewing room last Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I had so <em>completely<\/em>\u00a0forgotten about it that that very day I&#8217;d written &#8220;check fabric stash for fabric and lace for 1912 slip&#8221; on my beginning of the week list.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/wedding-gown-for-fabric-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/wedding-gown-for-fabric-1.jpg\" alt=\"wedding-gown-for-fabric-1\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I hadn&#8217;t even gotten <em>started<\/em> on that list and there it was, yards and yards of fabric, and lace, all perfect for the project.<\/p>\n<p>I felt so incredibly blessed.<\/p>\n<p>But the biggest happy thing so far this week, is the littlest of all. \u00a0Or, perhaps, the other way &#8217;round.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/gold-heart-earrings.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/gold-heart-earrings.jpg\" alt=\"gold-heart-earrings\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These earrings, which hubby got me for our first anniversary (nearly 24 years ago), have been missing for several months. \u00a0I was heartbroken, had given them up for good, and was just thankful that among all the new jewelry I&#8217;m constantly buying and\/or making\u00a0he&#8217;d likely never notice their\u00a0absence.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday I pulled out a bracelet I hadn&#8217;t worn in a long time, and <strong>there they were<\/strong>, clinging to it. \u00a0You should have seen my smile.<\/p>\n<p>It could have lit up a room. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s definitely the little things in life that can make us the most happy.<\/p>\n<p>Wishing you all a happy and creative week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry I haven&#8217;t written much in the past week, it&#8217;s been a kinda weird time around here.
