Now, for something completely different!<\/p>\n

Most of you know I’ve been working my way through Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of Christmas techniques from last year. \u00a0(Btw, did you see his announcement? \u00a0I am so excited! \u00a0This seems like a much, much better way.)<\/p>\n

Anyhow, I’m up to Day 10<\/a>, you may have seen me in the midst of working it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These little 4 inch canvases have been hanging around for a long time. \u00a0My first thought was to make a standing display, like the “Journey” piece Tim made in The Journey Continues<\/a>\"\". You can see it here, on the cover of the DVD.<\/p>\n

But then I decided I wanted to use the dress form from the\u00a0Sizzix Alterations Sewing Room Die<\/a>, and so it had to go vertically, rather than horizontally. A hanging piece would be better, anyhow, since I’m limited on\u00a0horizontal\u00a0space.<\/p>\n

I loosely followed the directions on the DVD for coloring the canvases, but used\u00a0Matte Multi Medium<\/a>\"\"\u00a0instead of beeswax. \u00a0Lots of distress ink, some paint splattering and bits of pattern tissue are layered on there.<\/p>\n

The final layer on the canvases, which isn’t very obvious in the photos, was to stamp on them with the script stamp from Tim’s\u00a0Urban Grunge<\/a>\u00a0stamp set with\u00a0Coffee Archival Ink<\/a>. \u00a0I had at first tried to stamp with a wood block stamp, but it wouldn’t reach the center of the canvas which dips in slightly. \u00a0The unmounted stamp worked perfectly. \u00a0It stuck to my fingers just enough for me to position it and get a good impression.<\/p>\n

\"canvas-wall-art-letter-c\"<\/a><\/p>\n

He has a way cool technique on the DVD for painting the large wooden letters.<\/p>\n

It involves base coating the letter with black paint, putting on blobs of petroleum jelly, then adding a thick layer of paint over everything. \u00a0Once the paint is dry, you can rub off the areas that are over the petroleum jelly, leaving a peeled, weathered paint look.<\/p>\n

I followed the\u00a0Day 10<\/a>\u00a0directions for decorating\u00a0Facets<\/a>\u00a0with papers from the\u00a0Crowded Attic Paper Stash<\/a>, then decided they needed a little more color and dabbed on\u00a0Eggplant<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Stream<\/a>\u00a0alcohol inks. \u00a0The facets are dangling from a\u00a0Swivel Clasp<\/a><\/p>\n

The dress form was cut with the\u00a0Sewing Room Die<\/a>, embossed with the Steampunk embossing folder<\/a>\"\"\u00a0and colored with all manner of distress inks and\u00a0Perfect Pearls<\/a>. \u00a0Behind it are some buttons and a few\u00a0Sprocket Gears<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Some other items I used were the\u00a0Tattered Banners die<\/a>,\u00a0Alpha Parts: Newsprint<\/a>,\u00a0Metallic Rub-Ons<\/a>, a\u00a0Trinket Pin<\/a>\u00a0and one of Tim’s\u00a0Curio Knobs<\/a>\"\". The curio knob was painted with a little\u00a0Perfect Pearls in Heirloom Gold<\/a>\u00a0mixed with a tiny bit of water. \u00a0This did a very cool crackle effect over the smooth surface.<\/p>\n

All the little sewing related thingies were just bits and bobs that were hanging out in my sewing room. \u00a0Fun stuff!<\/p>\n
