Jennifer McGuire is one of the best teachers of papercrafting techniques. \u00a0She always makes everything look so easy and doable.<\/p>\n

Anyhow I decided I needed to work on my stash of on-hand cards, so just started playing with the techniques, then made the results into cards.<\/p>\n

\"technique-card-crackled-wheat\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This one was done by covering a piece of heavy cardstock with Broken China Crackle Paint<\/a>\"\". \u00a0Putting the paint on thicker will result in larger crackles. I like to make some areas thin and some thicker.<\/p>\n

Once the paint is dry, work a contrasting distress ink into the crackles, (I used Vintage Photo<\/a>)\u00a0then spritz with water and buff \u00a0with a cloth. \u00a0This will leave the ink only in the cracks.<\/p>\n

Stamp an image with Staz-On or archival ink. \u00a0I used Coffee Archival Ink<\/a>\"\"\u00a0with the Hero Arts Silhouette Grass <\/a>\"\" stamp.<\/p>\n

The label was cut with the\u00a0Spellbinders Nestabilities Mega Dies, Labels 8<\/a>\u00a0and my\u00a0Sizzix Big Shot<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Add some ribbon and mount onto a kraft note card for a simple, yet elegant card.<\/p>\n

This next one was fun.<\/p>\n

\"technique-card-blue-tree\"<\/a><\/p>\n

First, ink your entire surface with distress ink. \u00a0I used\u00a0Broken China<\/a>\"\". Then cover your stamp with\u00a0Clear Embossing Ink<\/a>\u00a0and spray with water. \u00a0Stamp this onto your inked background. \u00a0I love the ghosted image \u00a0you get doing it this way. \u00a0(The stamp I used was the Designblock Tree by Hero Arts<\/a>\"\".)<\/p>\n

The butterflies are done by covering cardstock with text paper. \u00a0(I used sheets from a dictionary I got for 5o\u00a2 at Job Lot.) Make sure all the edges are glued down well, but don’t get adhesive on the paper.<\/p>\n

Now, heavily ink \u00a0the paper with a variety of distress inks. \u00a0Some of the colors I used are\u00a0Broken China<\/a>\"\",\u00a0Peeled Paint<\/a>.\u00a0Dusty Concord<\/a>,\u00a0Spiced Marmalade<\/a>\"\"\u00a0and\u00a0Worn Lipstick<\/a>.\"\"\u00a0Coat the whole thing with a thick layer of\u00a0Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Once the rock candy paint is dry, punch or die cut shapes of your choice.<\/p>\n

I have to admit, I thought my sheet as a whole was quite ugly, but once I started punching out individual butterflies with the Martha Stewart Classic Butterfly Punch<\/a>\"\"\u00a0I was amazed at how lovely they looked.<\/p>\n

The butterflies are mounted on a strip of patterned paper cut with the\u00a0Scallop Sentiment Border Punch<\/a>\"\".<\/p>\n

I like making “Thinking of You” cards because I can customize them for any occasion by adding \u00a0a sentiment on the inside. \u00a0The top card has already been sent off as a birthday card, but it could just as easily have been for sympathy, get well or thank you.<\/p>\n
