{"id":317,"date":"2010-11-19T16:13:41","date_gmt":"2010-11-19T21:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/?p=317"},"modified":"2011-12-20T21:11:58","modified_gmt":"2011-12-21T02:11:58","slug":"topsy-turvy-doll-free-pattern-and-directions-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2010\/11\/19\/topsy-turvy-doll-free-pattern-and-directions-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Topsy-Turvy Doll \u2013 Free Pattern and Directions, Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Welcome to part 2 of our Topsy-Turvy doll.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re jumping into the middle, you can find <a title=\"Topsy Turvy doll pattern - part 1\" href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2010\/11\/18\/topsy-turvy-doll-free-pattern-and-directions-part-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">part 1 here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is what we&#8217;re making:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/2010-11-topsy-turvy-doll-awake.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/2010-11-topsy-turvy-doll-awake.jpg\" alt=\"topsy turvy doll awake\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/2010-11-topsy-turvy-doll-asleep.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/2010-11-topsy-turvy-doll-asleep.jpg\" alt=\"topsy turvy doll asleep\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At this point your doll faces should be complete, the bodies and arms should be sewn, stuffed and handstitched closed.\u00a0 Now you need to bring the arms to the sewing machine and stitch three lines on each hand to make the finger divisions.\u00a0 As long as you stuffed this lightly, you shouldn&#8217;t have any problems.\u00a0 Start sewing at the edge of each hand and stitch up towards the shoulder, then backstitch on the same line all the way back to your starting point.\u00a0 If your machine balks at stitching through all the thickness, you can hand sew these lines or skip this step altogether.<\/p>\n<p>To sew the arms to the bodies, use very heavy thread and a long needle, like a doll needle.\u00a0 The thread I like to use is labeled &#8220;Extra Strong for Buttons, Carpets and Crafts.&#8221;\u00a0 Use doubled thread to go through the dots on the arm, then through the shoulder and back.\u00a0 Go around\u00a03-4 times.\u00a0 Bury the knot in the doll. (In this photo I have the thread loose to show the\u00a0path it needs to\u00a0take.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll have to\u00a0pull it tight as you sew.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-attaching-arm-to-body.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-attaching-arm-to-body.jpg\" alt=\"topsy-turvy-doll-attaching-arm-to-body\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To make the clothing:<\/p>\n<p>With right sides together, sew lace to necklines of both bodices.\u00a0 Match the raw edge of bodice to the gathered edge of the lace.\u00a0 If you wish, press seam toward bodice and topstitch to hold in place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-dress-bodice-with-lace.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-dress-bodice-with-lace.jpg\" alt=\"topsy-turvy-doll-dress-bodice-with-lace\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the same manner sew lace to the edges of the nightgown sleeves and the nightcap.<\/p>\n<p>Finish sleeve edges of day dress.\u00a0 Fold on line and stitch to make a casing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-sleeve-with-casing.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-sleeve-with-casing.jpg\" alt=\"topsy-turvy-doll-sleeve-with-casing\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Use\u00a04 4.5&#8243; pieces of 1\/4&#8243; elastic.\u00a0 Use a zigzag stitch to sew one to each nightgown sleeve 1 1\/2&#8243; from finished edge of lace.\u00a0 (Tip:\u00a0 Leave the elastic long and mark at 4.5&#8243;.\u00a0 This gives you something to hold on to while sewing.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-sewing-on-elastic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-sewing-on-elastic.jpg\" alt=\"topsy-turvy-doll-sewing-on-elastic\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-stretching-elastic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-stretching-elastic.jpg\" alt=\"topsy-turvy-doll-stretching-elastic\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-finished-sleeve-elastic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/topsy-turvy-doll-finished-sleeve-elastic.jpg\" alt=\"topsy-turvy-doll-finished-sleeve-elastic\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Insert the remaing 2 pieces of elastic into sleeve casings on day dress, tacking in place in seam allowance.<\/p>\n<p>Cut a 13&#8243; piece of 1\/4&#8243; elastic.\u00a0 Zigzag stitch this to the nightcap, 2&#8243; in from finished edge of lace.<\/p>\n<p>Sew all sleeve and underarm seams.<\/p>\n<p>Well, that&#8217;s plenty for today.\u00a0 Phew!\u00a0 Tomorrow we&#8217;ll decorate the skirts and get our dolly dressed.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Topsy Turvy Doll Part 3\" href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2010\/11\/20\/topsy-turvy-doll-free-pattern-and-directions-part-3\/\">Click here to go directly to Part 3.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to part 2 of our Topsy-Turvy doll.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re jumping into the middle, you can find part 1 here.
