I finally finished my scrapbook layout inspired by Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of Christmas, day 5. I would have posted this sooner, I had just taken the photos, but dh insisted that last night was time to watch some of our Christmas DVDs. As much as part of me wanted to go do other stuff, of course he was right.<\/p>\n

In case you’re the least bit interested, we watched the Little Drummer Boy<\/a>\"\" (about the only one we have that’s actually about birth of Jesus, and even that falls short of telling the whole story…), 32.5 seconds of Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol<\/a>\"\"—awful!, and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town<\/a>\"\", narrated by Fred Astaire, absolutely adorable. \u00a0I went to bed composing my list to Santa.<\/p>\n

If you were dyin’ of suspense these 24 hours, well, I’m sorry. \u00a0*****snort*****<\/p>\n

Anyhow. The main technique in the day 5 tag <\/a>is one Tim has been teaching for ages. \u00a0It’s still kinda like magic to me, though. You can see it in the two outer borders of the layout.<\/p>\n

It works like this, first you take something transparent such as microscope slides,\u00a0Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Fragments<\/a>\u00a0or Tim Holtz Facets<\/a>\"\". I used a piece of a clear plastic divider left over from another project. \u00a0Really, anything nonporous and transparent that you can scrounge up will work. \u00a0I save clear packaging for this, too.<\/p>\n

Next, you color it with alcohol inks in colors of your choice. I used\u00a0Cranberry<\/a>,\u00a0Raisin<\/a>,\u00a0Wild Plum<\/a>,\u00a0Eggplant<\/a>,\u00a0Red Pepper<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Ink Blending Tool.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then you ink up a stamp with Jet Black Archival Ink<\/a>\"\". \u00a0(It’s important here to use a permanent ink. \u00a0The color doesn’t matter so much.) I used a swirls stamp. \u00a0Keep in mind that if you use a stamp with alphas or numbers, they will come out reversed.<\/p>\n

Stamp over the alcohol inks. \u00a0Immediately dab at the black ink with a clean rag. \u00a0You’ll note when the black ink appears to be dried, and now you can start wiping at it.<\/p>\n

Amazingly, it will come up, removing the alcohol inks with it!<\/em><\/p>\n

This leaves the areas you stamped transparent. \u00a0Most cool.<\/p>\n

I cut the edges of these borders with the\u00a0Scrollwork on the Edge Die<\/a>\"\".<\/p>\n

Before I cut them out I glued a piece of paper to the left one, nothing to the right. \u00a0Don’t know that you can even tell the difference.<\/p>\n

The background papers are from the\u00a0Crowded Attic Paper Stash<\/a>. I swiped Spun Sugar Distress Stain<\/a>\"\",\u00a0Fired Brick Distress Stain<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Picket Fence Distress Stain<\/a>\u00a0onto the\u00a0Non Stick Craft Sheet<\/a>\u00a0then misted the papers with water and swirled them through the stains.<\/p>\n

They were in danger of being too\u00a0sickeningly\u00a0sweet red and pink, so I edged everything with\u00a0Vintage Photo\u00a0Distress Ink.<\/p>\n
