Yesterday I promised I would post a photo of my completed snowflakes. \u00a0I’m really happy with how they came out.<\/p>\n

I did these using the techniques Tim used on his snowman for the day four tag<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These are the steps I followed:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Paint a 2″ x 12″ strip of\u00a0grunge paper<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0Picket Fence Distress Stain<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. Realize that Tim said to paint with\u00a0Snow Cap Paint Dabber<\/a>. \u00a0Oops. \u00a0Paint over with\u00a0Pearl Metallic Paint Dabber<\/a>\u00a0instead. \u00a0(I can’t follow recipes without substituting, either.) \u00a0Leave to dry.<\/li>\n
  3. Die cut snowflakes with an old Sizzix snowflake die (green die, snowflake #2)<\/li>\n
  4. Paint on a very thick <\/em>\u00a0coat of\u00a0Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint<\/a>\u00a0and go to bed, leaving it to dry overnight.<\/li>\n
  5. In the morning find that the crackle had cracked so much it had lifted off the paint in some areas. \u00a0I have two theories as to why this happened. \u00a01) My original coat of Distress Stain sealed the grunge paper so that the paint didn’t stick so well, or 2) I put the Rock Candy on too thickly. Any thoughts?<\/li>\n
  6. Rub off all the loose bits of paint and crackle paint.<\/li>\n
  7. Repaint over everything with\u00a0Pearl Metallic Paint Dabber<\/a>, let dry and then add a not-quite-so-thick layer of\u00a0Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  8. Once this is dry go over everything with\u00a0Broken China Distress Stain<\/a>\u00a0and dab on a little\u00a0Faded Jeans Distress Stain<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  9. Heat slightly with a heat tool<\/a>\"\"\u00a0per Tim’s directions. \u00a0He says it bakes the stain into the crackle.<\/li>\n
  10. Exclaim with delight at how gorgeous my snowflakes are!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The lumpy, bumpy texture and the different size cracks make them that much more interesting. \u00a0I like them so much, I may just make them into ornaments. \u00a0Or they may go onto a scrapbook page, not sure yet.<\/div>\n

    How about doing this on heart shapes with pinks, reds and purple to make beautiful Valentine’s decorations? \u00a0Or on red, white and blue stars for Fourth of July? \u00a0Ooooo, the\u00a0possibilities…<\/div>\n
