Days 1-3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, color me amazed.\u00a0 It\u2019s the 4<sup>th<\/sup> of December and I\u2019ve managed to accomplish projects inspired by three of Tim\u2019s 12 Tags of Christmas so far.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know what I\u2019m talking about, Tim Holtz is only the king of all things distressed and paper crafty.\u00a0 Check out his web site <a title=\"Tim Holtz blog\" href=\"http:\/\/timholtz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 Even if you aren\u2019t into paper crafting, you\u2019ll have to be impressed.<\/p>\n<p>Tim loves to demonstrate his creative techniques on large manila shipping tags.\u00a0 Five years ago he started doing the 12 Tags of Christmas on his blog.\u00a0 Every day from December 1<sup>st<\/sup> through the 12<sup>th<\/sup> at midnight he posts a new tag, full of clever tricks with ink and paper.\u00a0 He always includes step-by-step directions with excellent photos.<\/p>\n<p>I stumbled across him in his second year of doing the tags and made Christmas cards based on his tags each day.\u00a0 Silly me didn\u2019t take photos of all of them, but here are a few.<\/p>\n<p>(Click on any of the photos to enlarge.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/2008-12-27-Christmas-card.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/2008-12-27-Christmas-card.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas card oh come let us adore him\" width=\"293\" height=\"375\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/2008-12-27-day-8-alcohol-ink-ornaments.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/2008-12-27-day-8-alcohol-ink-ornaments.jpg\" alt=\"christmas cardwith alcohol ink ornaments\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/2008-12-27-snowman-card.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/2008-12-27-snowman-card.jpg\" alt=\"christmas card snowman with distress crackle paint\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next year I decided to just make the tags.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/my-12-tags-of-Christmas-sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/my-12-tags-of-Christmas-sm.jpg\" alt=\"12 tags of Christmas-Tim Holtz 2009\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last year, well\u2026 erm.\u00a0 See this stack of paper?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/12-tags-paper-stack.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/12-tags-paper-stack.jpg\" alt=\"12-tags-paper-stack\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yup, those are the directions from <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">last year\u2019s<\/span> tags, all printed out and neatly clipped together by day.\u00a0 And, yes, they have been sitting on my desk <em>for an entire year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>:::::::::hangs head in shame::::::::::<\/p>\n<p>So, back to today!\u00a0 I\u2019m so happy to report as of tonight I am nearly caught up (with this year, not last year!) \u00a0I attribute this to two reasons: 1) I\u2019ve been collecting Tim\u2019s supplies for three years now and can pretty much make do, even if I don\u2019t have the exact items he used, and 2) I decided to only\u00a0<em>use his techniques, <\/em>but\u00a0not worry about making <strong>copies<\/strong> of what he\u2019s done.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, I was in Michaels on Thursday, December 1st, 40% off coupon in hand, and <em>walked out without buying anything<\/em>. \u00a0This is mind blowing.\u00a0 Seriously.<\/p>\n<p>This change of mind set is actually incredibly freeing. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>For <a title=\"12 tags of Christmas 2011 day 1\" href=\"http:\/\/timholtz.com\/12-tags-of-christmastag-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">day one<\/a>, I made this card.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/12-tags-day-1-merry-christmas-card.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/cards\/12-tags-day-1-merry-christmas-card.jpg\" alt=\"12-tags-day-1-merry-christmas-card\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The main technique was to ink up the background portion only of the embossing folder.\u00a0 After running through your die cutting machine you sprinkle on embossing powder, it only sticks on the inner parts of the pattern.\u00a0 Kinda neat. I love how it came out using the <a title=\"Merry Christmas embossing folder set\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0049B69BA\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B0049B69BA\" target=\"_blank\">Merry Christmas embossing folder set<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0049B69BA\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>.<\/p>\n<p>It only took me 20 minutes to dig up this pinecone which was left over from a class I took with Tim last year.\u00a0 Perfect.<\/p>\n<p>For <a title=\"12 tags of Christmas day 2\" href=\"http:\/\/timholtz.com\/12-tags-of-christmastag-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">day two<\/a>, I did a scrapbook layout.\u00a0 The main technique was to use <a title=\"Picket Fence Distress Stain\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B005IQHFMW\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B005IQHFMW\" target=\"_blank\">Picket Fence Distress Stain<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B005IQHFMW\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/> over resist paper.\u00a0 Did you know that you can make any paper a resist paper with a large background stamp (like this <a title=\"Harlequin Background Stamp\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0021F8NXS\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B0021F8NXS\" target=\"_blank\">Harlequin Background Stamp<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B0021F8NXS\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>, and <a title=\"Ranger Embossing Powder 1-Ounce, Clear\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00161O5Y4?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00161O5Y4\" target=\"_blank\">Clear Embossing Powder<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the paper after embossing:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/12-tags-day-2-clear-embossing.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/12-tags-day-2-clear-embossing.jpg\" alt=\"12-tags-day-2-clear-embossing\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here it is after adding ink. \u00a0See how the embossed areas resist the ink?
