(And then the guests exclaim, &#8220;Ooooo, did YOU make these?&#8221; and the kids beam. \ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n<p>The below directions ARE NOT MINE, I found them <a title=\"How to make leaf print napkins\" href=\"http:\/\/www.craftstylish.com\/item\/12896\/how-to-make-leaf-print-napkins-for-your-holiday-table?utm_source=email&amp;utm_medium=eletter&amp;utm_term=holidays&amp;utm_content=20111118-folded-turkey-napkins&amp;utm_campaign=craftstylish-eletter\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0and want to be sure <a title=\"kayte  terry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.craftstylish.com\/profile\/kaytet\" target=\"_blank\">kayte terry<\/a>\u00a0gets full credit for putting together these step by steps.\u00a0 (Just wanted to save you the bother of clicking over to another site.)<\/p>\n<p>I think these napkins would be especially elegant in dark shades of red or green, painted with gold, silver or pearl paints.\u00a0 Save yourself some bother and buy the napkins already made up!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you&#8217;ll need (makes four napkins):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A selection of leaves in different shapes (make sure they aren&#8217;t too brittle)<\/li>\n<li>1 yard solid cotton or linen<\/li>\n<li>Waxed paper or newsprint<\/li>\n<li>Sponge brush<\/li>\n<li>Fabric paint\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Brayer<\/li>\n<li>Iron<\/li>\n<li>Rotary cutter and mat\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Sewing machine and thread<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Printing the Leaves<br \/>\n<\/strong>1. Lay your fabric out on a large, flat surface. Make sure your surface is protected with waxed paper or newsprint.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.craftstylish.com\/assets\/uploads\/posts\/12896\/napkins1_lg.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"286\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here we&#39;re using autumnal colors for the leaves, but shades of green would be pretty, too.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>2. Lay out another small sheet of waxed paper, and lay one leaf front side down on it.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.craftstylish.com\/assets\/uploads\/posts\/12896\/napkins2_lg.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"286\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Daub, rather than brush, fabric paint on the leaves to coat. Don&#39;t forget to get a little paint on the stem.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>3. Put a small amount of fabric paint on a sponge brush and daub the back of the leaf to coat.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.craftstylish.com\/assets\/uploads\/posts\/12896\/napkins3_lg.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"338\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Place the leaf on your fabric, then roll over the entire leaf with a brayer to print it. Don&#39;t roll too hard.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>4. Flip the leaf over, and lay it on fabric as desired. Roll a brayer over the leaf to print it. If you have never done this before, you might want to practice on a few scraps of test fabric first.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Sandy&#8217;s note:\u00a0 If you make a mess, and get some splatters, just do some &#8220;creative splattering&#8221; all over once you&#8217;ve printed the leaves.\u00a0 Of course you meant it to be that way!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>5. Continue with the design as desired. Let the paint dry, then iron on the wrong side of the fabric to set the paint.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Making the Napkins<\/strong><br \/>\n1. With a rotary cutter and mat, cut fabric into four 17 x 17-inch pieces.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Sandy&#8217;s note:\u00a0 Personally, if I&#8217;d bought a yard of fabric, I&#8217;d cut the squares to 18&#8243;x18&#8243;, just to not waste anything.\u00a0 Having an extra 2&#8243; would drive me nuts.\u00a0 I&#8217;d probably find a way to use the 4&#8243; strip on the other end too, lol.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2. On one side of one napkin, fold over the edge 1\/4 inch, press, and fold over 1\/2 inch. Press again. Repeat on the other side. Sew down both sides close to the seam. Backstitch at each end.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>(Sandy&#8217;s note: If you own a serger, here is an excellent time to be super speedy and use the rolled hem instead.)<\/em><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 429px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.craftstylish.com\/assets\/uploads\/posts\/12896\/napkins5_lg.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"272\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is what your hems should look like at the corners.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>3. Repeat on the other two sides.<\/p>\n<p>4. Repeat with the other napkins.
