href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2011\/09\/29\/beaded-handles-for-purses-tutorial\/\">Beaded Handles<\/a> for said purses.<\/p>\n<p>Now let\u2019s look at, in no particular order, some finishing details to make your bags truly special.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Consider making the two sides of the bag slightly different<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A few years back the oriental purse was the bag I carried with me.\u00a0 One thing that was frustrating was the constant flipping back and forth to find the side with what I needed in it.<\/p>\n<p>So, when I made the floral purse, I put a pink button on one side\u2026<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-floral-bag_0.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-floral-bag_0.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-floral-bag_0\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2026and a green one on the other side.\u00a0 Now you\u2019ll know that your wallet is on the pink side, cell phone is on the green, or whatever.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-floral-bag-green-button.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-floral-bag-green-button.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-floral-bag-green-button\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The difference on the purple purse is a bit subtler; one side has two leaves\u2026<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-fairy-button-2-leaves.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-fairy-button-2-leaves.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-fairy-button-2-leaves\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2026and the other side has only one leaf.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-fairy-button-1-leaf.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-fairy-button-1-leaf.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-fairy-button-1-leaf\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This leads me to the next point:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>You can use embellishments other than just buttons<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The purple silk flowers and leaves are actually there to solve the problem of the buttons not being able to entirely cover the back of the magnetic clasp.\u00a0 I\u2019m so happy I needed to solve that problem, though, because I think they add SO much to the purse.<\/p>\n<p>You could add a ribbon bow under your buttons, clusters of ribbon or silk flowers, beading\u2026 the possibilities are endless.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>If you don\u2019t like how it comes out, you can change it<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This floral bag was made for a class sample, and it was beyond the scope of the class to add beaded handles.\u00a0 I really struggled to find something quick and easy that I liked for a handle for this bag<\/p>\n<p>Late one night before the class I settled on this braided ribbon.\u00a0 I never was satisfied with it, and it was a relief to take it off and add the beads.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purses-floral-before.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purses-floral-before.jpg\" alt=\"folded-purses-floral-before\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>I carried this black purse with me just like this, and was happy with it\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purses-oriental-before.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purses-oriental-before.jpg\" alt=\"folded-purses-oriental-before\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2026but I\u2019m even happier with it now.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-oriental.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-oriental.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-oriental\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>How about jazzing up the beads with a twisted cording?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Someone was kind enough to give me this purple cording to use on this bag, so I really wanted to incorporate it with the beads.\u00a0 When I saw these twisty glass leaves, I knew they\u2019d be perfect.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-glass-leaves-handle_0.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-glass-leaves-handle_0.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-glass-leaves-handle_0\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want to twine cording around your beaded handle:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Twist it just the way you want, then tie it to the ends of the clasps.<\/li>\n<li>To keep it from untwisting, tack the ends of the cording to the inside of the side seams.\u00a0 (Simple enough, eh?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-handle-tutorial-18-optional-cord.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-handle-tutorial-18-optional-cord.jpg\" alt=\"folded-purse-handle-tutorial-18-optional-cord\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And finally, my favorite trick of all time:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Use alcohol inks to change the colors of your hardware<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The eyelets for this purse really needed to be something other than silver in order to go with the beads and the gold bits in the fabric print, but\u00a0I could only find them in silver.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-gold-grommet.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-gold-grommet.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-gold-grommet\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alcohol inks to the rescue!\u00a0 They are <em>awesome, <\/em>because you can use them to permanently color any non-porous surface.\u00a0 This means glass, glazed ceramics, metals, plastic\u2026 are you starting to get ideas?\u00a0 Oh, they are fun!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Dabbing on alcohol inks<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>So, to do my eyelets, first I dripped some <a title=\"Butterscotch Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gdNNEg\" target=\"_blank\">Butterscotch<\/a>\u00a0alcohol ink all over them and blotted off the excess.\u00a0 This colored the inner sections where I couldn\u2019t reach with my dabber.<\/p>\n<p>Then I applied one dot of <a title=\"Gold\/Silver Metallic Mixatives Kit\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gi3JHk\" target=\"_blank\">Gold Metallic Mixative<\/a>\u00a0to a small piece of felt (make sure to shake up the mixatives well before using) and dabbed this on my eyelets.\u00a0 Voila, gold eyelets!<\/p>\n<p>I could have made them any color the alcohol inks come in, and even blended colors.\u00a0 You could try mixing browns and oranges to get a brassy look, or even just coloring them black would look cool.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Painting on alcohol inks<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Aren\u2019t these buttons gorgeous?\u00a0 I thought so; I picked them out to replace the solid black buttons on the oriental purse. (They oughtta be amazing, they were $8 for the pair!\u00a0 Thankfully, I had a 50% off coupon with me.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-buttons-before.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-buttons-before.jpg\" alt=\"folded-purse-buttons-before\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, I thought they could use a bit of pink in them to tie them in with the handles and the pink in the fabric print.\u00a0 How to do it?<\/p>\n<p>No problem, once more it&#8217;s alcohol inks!<\/p>\n<p>To paint with alcohol inks you will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Tim Holtz Alcohol Blending Solution\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2foWxKf\" target=\"_blank\">Alcohol Blending Solution<\/a>\u00a0(sold near the alcohol inks in craft stores)<\/li>\n<li>A refillable <a title=\"Waterbrush\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000KNJEMW\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217153&amp;creative=399701&amp;creativeASIN=B000KNJEMW\" target=\"_blank\">water brush<\/a> (make sure to <em>label<\/em> this as blending solution, you don\u2019t want to confuse it with water)<\/li>\n<li>Alcohol inks in your choice of colors (some of my favorites are: <a title=\"Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Ink, Cranberry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000WWIFO4?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000WWIFO4\" target=\"_blank\">Cranberry<\/a>, <a title=\"Butterscotch Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gdNNEg\" target=\"_blank\">Butterscotch<\/a>, <a title=\"Terra Cotta Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Ink\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2gdNOYQ\" target=\"_blank\">Terra Cotta<\/a>, <a title=\"Ranger 1\/2 Ounce Adirondack Alcohol Ink Singles, Raisin\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000WWGF4G?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000WWGF4G\" target=\"_blank\">Raisin<\/a>, <a title=\"Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Inks eggplant\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00161O43G?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00161O43G\" target=\"_blank\">Eggplant<\/a>, <a title=\"Ranger 1\/2-Ounce Adirondack Alcohol Ink Singles, Denim\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000WWK80S?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000WWK80S\" target=\"_blank\">Denim<\/a>, <a title=\"Adirondack Alcohol Ink .5 Ounce - Stream\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00161O4AO?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00161O4AO\" target=\"_blank\">Stream<\/a>\u00a0and <a title=\"Ranger 1\/2-Ounce Adirondack Alcohol Ink Singles, Espresso\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000WWIFPI?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000WWIFPI\" target=\"_blank\">Espresso<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>A small paint palette or even just a small plastic plate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-buttons-color-with-alcohol-ink.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-buttons-color-with-alcohol-ink.jpg\" alt=\"folded-purse-buttons-color-with-alcohol-ink\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First, drip several drops of each alcohol ink color you want to use onto your palette or plate.\u00a0 Now, leave them alone and <em>let them dry<\/em>.\u00a0 It should only take a few seconds.\u00a0 And it will look like an utter mess.\u00a0 Yup, I know this sounds weird, but it works.<\/p>\n<p>While you\u2019re waiting, fill the\u00a0<a title=\"Waterbrush\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000KNJEMW\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217153&amp;creative=399701&amp;creativeASIN=B000KNJEMW\" target=\"_blank\">water brush<\/a> with\u00a0<a title=\"Tim Holtz Alcohol Blending Solution\" href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2foWxKf\" target=\"_blank\">alcohol blending solution<\/a> and <em>label it as such.\u00a0 <\/em>\u00a0I mean it!\u00a0 If you confuse this with water, you will be sorry.<\/p>\n<p>Now take your brush and gently squeeze it, the solution should start to flow from the brush tip.\u00a0 Lightly rub this into one of the colors of dried alcohol ink.\u00a0 It picks up the color onto the brush and now you can paint with that color on your object.<\/p>\n<p>I chose to paint the little leaves on my buttons with <a title=\"Ranger Adirondack Alcohol Ink, Cranberry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000WWIFO4?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000WWIFO4\" target=\"_blank\">Cranberry<\/a>\u00a0alcohol ink.\u00a0 Wonderful!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-buttons-after.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/tutorial-steps\/folded-purse-buttons-after.jpg\" alt=\"folded-purse-buttons-after\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When your brush runs out of color, just go back to the palette to pick up some more.\u00a0 If you want to change colors, just scribble the brush onto a <a title=\"non stick craft sheet\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2yf83B9\" target=\"_blank\">Non Stick Craft Sheet<\/a> until the liquid runs clear.<\/p>\n<p>You can use the blending solution to clean off the craft sheet, fingers and most anything else when you\u2019re all done.\u00a0 Also, if you\u2019re not happy with what you\u2019ve done, just wipe it with blending solution to remove all color and start over.<\/p>\n<p>Now my buttons go perfectly with my bag.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-close-up-oriental.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/sewing\/folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-close-up-oriental.jpg\" alt=\"folded-bags-with-beaded-handles-close-up-oriental\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By the way, it\u2019s a good idea to first test alcohol inks and the blending solution in an inconspicuous spot to make sure they won\u2019t damage any existing color.\u00a0 Usually they won\u2019t, but it smart to test first!<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it, some fun details to add to your purses.\u00a0 I hope you\u2019ll give this project a try.\u00a0 If you do, I\u2019d love to see pics of your work.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Happy creating!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the past week I\u2019ve shown you how to make Origami Folded Purses\u00a0and Beaded Handles for said purses.
