{"id":1539,"date":"2011-04-15T15:07:41","date_gmt":"2011-04-15T19:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/?p=1539"},"modified":"2011-12-20T19:34:26","modified_gmt":"2011-12-21T00:34:26","slug":"how-to-rescue-a-bad-photo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2011\/04\/15\/how-to-rescue-a-bad-photo\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Rescue A Bad Photo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been going through my photos from 1988, these are the baby pictures of my first son.\u00a0 <em>(Boy, I wish I knew then what I know about photography and what kinds of pics I&#8217;d want to have for keepsakes.\u00a0 Ah, well.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a great example of a photo that&#8217;s desperately in need of rescuing.\u00a0 Cute baby, adorable smile, great pose\u00a0. . . and awful photography:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/1988-10-31-josh-original-grainy-photo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/1988-10-31-josh-original-grainy-photo.jpg\" alt=\"1988-10-31-josh-original-grainy-photo\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What to do?\u00a0 If you have <a title=\"Adobe Photoshop\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B003B32B2I\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B003B32B2I\" target=\"_blank\">Adobe Photoshop<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B003B32B2I\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00a0or <a title=\"Adobe Photoshop Elements\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B003YGMEAQ\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=secroforgapeo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B003YGMEAQ\" target=\"_blank\">Adobe Photoshop Elements<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=secroforgapeo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B003YGMEAQ\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/>, you can make lemonade from this lemon by using filters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/artistic-dry-brush-filter.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/artistic-dry-brush-filter.jpg\" alt=\"artistic-dry-brush-filter\" width=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I used the artistic dry brush filter to make this photo look like a painted portrait.\u00a0 Click on Filter&gt;Artistic&gt;Dry Brush.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, there are many other possibilities to choose from.\u00a0 I recommend you try them all.\u00a0 Different filters will work better with different types of photos.<\/p>\n<p>Once you choose a filter, you can also play with the settings to get just the look you want.\u00a0 I used a Brush Size of 2, Brush Detail of 8 and a Texture setting of 1.\u00a0 It defaults to a preview at 100% and you can move the photo around in the little window to look at different areas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/artistic-dry-brush-filter-settings.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"artistic-dry-brush-filter-settings\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/artistic-dry-brush-filter-settings.jpg\" alt=\"artistic-dry-brush-filter-settings\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And here&#8217;s my final result.\u00a0 I think it looks like we had a portrait painted of our little guy, a vast improvement over the grainy pic I began with.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/1988-10-31-josh-filter.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/photoshop-tips\/1988-10-31-josh-filter.jpg\" alt=\"1988-10-31-josh-filter\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It looks even better printed out, in fact I think I might get it printed on canvas to make it look more like a painting.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d love to hear from all of you about your favorite ways to rescue bad photos.<\/p>\n<p>Have a great weekend!<\/p>\n<p>Sandy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been going through my photos from 1988, these are the baby pictures of my first son.\u00a0 (Boy, I wish I knew then what I know about photography and what kinds of pics I&#8217;d want to have for keepsakes.\u00a0 Ah, well.)
