{"id":1323,"date":"2011-03-05T07:27:57","date_gmt":"2011-03-05T12:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/?p=1323"},"modified":"2016-01-30T10:45:55","modified_gmt":"2016-01-30T15:45:55","slug":"magical-mystery-photo-cube","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/2011\/03\/05\/magical-mystery-photo-cube\/","title":{"rendered":"Magical Mystery Photo Cube"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lately I have been hooked on watching Tricia Morris&#8217; <a title=\"Tricia Morris' videos (&amp; others')\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/TVWeekly\/videos\" target=\"_blank\">videos over at TV Weekly<\/a>.\u00a0 She is such a fantastic teacher and has the coolest ideas.\u00a0 I had to make the Memories Cubed photo cube (do a Google search for &#8220;Club Scrap Memories Cubed&#8221;)\u00a0just to see for myself how it worked.<\/p>\n<p>As I mention in the video below, I couldn&#8217;t figure out how to show this thing with still photos, so you get my first video. Evah. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TGb8litN50I?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"510\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I asked my husband to make the eight 1.5&#8243; wooden cubes for me, but I also found them at A.C. Moore for 89 cents each.\u00a0 (Was it worth waiting two weeks to save $7.50?\u00a0 Yeah, I suppose, lol.)<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few tips for you that I wish Tricia had mentioned in the video:<\/p>\n<p>1. Make sure to let the glue set up completely for each step before &#8220;working those hinges.&#8221;\u00a0 (Once you watch her video, you&#8217;ll know what I mean.) This keeps things from moving around on you, which can be quite aggravating.<\/p>\n<p>2. Limit the embellishments you use to <em>very thin items.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 I used one layer of card stock and one photo on each section.\u00a0 My only embellishments were rubber stamping and some rub-ons.\u00a0 Anything more and the cube will be too thick to work properly.<\/p>\n<p>3. Pay attention to where your photos will be trimmed\/folded.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t want cuts or fold lines across people&#8217;s eyes (or mouths!)\u00a0 I made myself a trimming guide by drawing a 3&#8243;x3&#8243; square on a clear piece of plastic (I used a scrap of packaging.)\u00a0 I then drew in lines dividing it into four 1.5&#8243; squares, just as our cubes will be divided.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/2011-03-01-photo-cube-cutting-guide.jpg\" alt=\"2011-03-01-photo-cube-cutting-guide\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I used this to position my photos on the 3&#8243;x 3&#8243; squares so they wouldn&#8217;t be trimmed at awkward places.\u00a0 This is why many of my photos are positioned in the upper left corner.\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t want to chop up that cute little grin!\u00a0 (You do this <em>before<\/em> you glue the 3&#8243;x3&#8243; squares to the photo cube.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/keepsakecrafts.net\/blog\/wp-content\/gallery\/crafts\/2011-03-01-photo-cube-sm_0.jpg\" alt=\"2011-03-01-photo-cube-sm_0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve watched Tricia&#8217;s video, you&#8217;ll see what I mean.\u00a0 Let me know\u00a0how your own magical photo cubes come out.
