Have I mentioned that I love all things Tim Holtz<\/span>?\u00a0 <\/span>(Maybe once or twice, lol.) <\/em>Last fall I got to take not one, but TWO classes with him.\u00a0 It was a blast, and a highlight of my year.<\/p>\n

I’ve already posted one of the projects we made, the Christmas Configuration<\/a>.\u00a0 The other was this book made of grungeboard<\/span>, which I LOVE so much, it’s been sitting out in my craft room as decor.\u00a0 One of these days I may put photos in it, but I think it’s fantastic just as it is.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"tim<\/a><\/p>\n

The front & back covers and all of the pages are made of Grungeboard<\/span><\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 (This link leads to a\u00a0pack of 10 sheets which will make the entire book, with 2 sheets left over.)<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 The pages were embossed with a variety of embossing folders, including the Swirls Textured Fades Embossing Folder<\/a>.\u00a0 (You can see this one on the magenta page on the left, below.)<\/em><\/p>\n

One side edge of each page was cut with a Sizzix<\/span> Alterations on the edge die.\u00a0 My favorite of these is the <\/span>Scallops On The Edge Die<\/a>.\u00a0(Used on the green and magenta pages below the cover.)<\/em> The Bracket On The Edge Die<\/a> is also great, it’s not too busy and works well for manly or feminine uses.\u00a0 (Used on the turquoise and mustard pages.)<\/span><\/em> The Scrollwork<\/span> On The Edge Die<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is used on the cover.\u00a0 (I own that one, too,\u00a0it’s quite fancy and nice for girly<\/span> pages and cards.)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The first step in making our pages (once they were cut to right length) was to paint them all with paint dabbers.\u00a0 I tell ya, if you haven’t tried them, you need to, paint dabbers are terrific!<\/em>\u00a0 Instead of having to get out paint, paintbrushes and a dish for the paint, you simply pick up a paint dabber, give it a squeeze and use it like a marker.\u00a0 No mess and\u00a0so easy!<\/p>\n

\u00a0Tim warned us while we were painting to only put on one thin coat<\/span><\/strong> of paint, or we would regret it.\u00a0 You see, the next step after the paint dried was to use the Sanding Grip<\/a>\u00a0and sand the paint off the raised areas and the edges of the pages, exposing the raw grungeboard<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

To give them a wonderfully distressed and aged look (and quite change the colors) we then inked our pages with Distress Inks.\u00a0 The paint resisted the ink, but the exposed grungeboard took it, resulting in awesome looking pages.\u00a0 You can see this page below was painted with a <\/span>Lettuce Paint Dabber<\/a>, sanded, then inked with Faded Jeans Distress Ink\u00a0<\/a>. It was great fun trying out different combinations of paint and ink colors! (After you apply the ink, use a damp paper towel to wipe the excess off the painted areas.)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0For additional pages we make little pockets out of Tim’s Lost & Found Paper Stack<\/a>.\u00a0 I asked Tim where he got all these images (license plates, game pieces, and bottle caps, to name a few, all vintage<\/span><\/em>) and he told me that he owns<\/span> all\u00a0of it!<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/em>It all gets\u00a0laid out and then scanned to make the paper.\u00a0 That is ONE serious collection.\u00a0 Wow.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also got tags to ink and bind into our books.\u00a0 They were embossed with several different embossing folders, including, Tim Holtz<\/span> Rays & Retro Circles Sizzix<\/span> Textured Fades Embossing Folders\u00a0<\/span>, the Tim Holtz<\/span> Bingo & Patchwork Sizzix<\/span> Textured Fades Embossing Folders\u00a0<\/span><\/a>, Tim Holtz<\/span> Damask & Regal Flourishes Sizzix<\/span> Texture Fades Embossing Folders <\/span><\/a>and the Tim Holtz<\/span> Bricked & Woodgrain<\/span> Sizzix<\/span> Texture Fades Embossing Folders<\/span><\/a>. (The Bingo folder is used on the tag above, the Patchwork folder on the tag below.)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0We also colored the silk ribbon from the Lavish Trimmings set.\u00a0 (It started out white.) <\/em>First it got dipped in water, then wrung out so it was just damp.\u00a0 Then we swiped a variety of distress ink colors over the ribbon, crumpled it in a ball and set it aside to dry.\u00a0 Once it had dried the colors had transferred and bled from different areas and it was just gorgeous!\u00a0 <\/em>This one yard piece got snipped into seven pieces and tied to our tags.\u00a0 Yummy.<\/p>\n

We used the Cinch Book Bindery Tool<\/a>\"\" to put everything together (a very cool<\/span> machine, I think I gotta get me one)<\/em> and then got to decorate the cover.<\/p>\n

The cover was decorated with grungeboard<\/span> cut with the\u00a0<\/span>Tattered Florals Bigz Die<\/a>,\u00a0Hardware Findings Bigz<\/span> Die<\/span><\/a>, Gadget Gears Bigz<\/span> Die<\/span><\/a>, Elegant Flourishes Bigz<\/span> Die<\/span><\/a>, and the\u00a0Caged Bird Bigz<\/span> Die<\/span><\/a>. \u00a0These were all painted with paint dabbers, sanded, scratched with the Craft Scratcher<\/span><\/span><\/a>, then inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and Walnut Stain Distress Ink.<\/p>\n

As finishing touches, we hung crystals\u00a0on the bird cage (you could use Baubles<\/a>,) glued Accountrements<\/span> <\/span><\/a>to the flower centers and used a\u00a0Swivel Clasp<\/a>\u00a0to hang Adornments<\/a>, Type Charms<\/a>, and Muse Tokens<\/a>\"\" from the spine.<\/p>\n
