What's on your workdesk Wednesday

Today I’ve been working on making a necklace inspired by one I found in a catalog.  I love to collect fashion catalogs and use the colors, styles and details as jumping off points for my own projects.

Although I set out to just copy to necklace, I think you’ll agree that not being able to find all the exact same components forces us to use what we’ve got, be creative and really make it our own.

Also on the desk, in the upper middle-leftish, is the label for the wedding quilt, it’s nearly done, yay!

The pattern in the lower right corner is one I made and wore this weekend.  I’ll be reviewing it soon; it’s a really cute sarong shorts by Hot Patterns and got loads of compliments.  🙂

And that big purple thing?  That’s just my chocolate for the week – Trader Joe’s dark chocolate with peanuts, mmmmm…

To travel the desks of the world and see what other people are up on this Wednesday, go here.  Have fun!

  1. I have often wondered how those bead boards work never having seen one with anything on it! Sometimes I think not having quite the right stuff makes the finished item look better!!
    Naughty with the chocolate Sandy!!
Going to finally get my zip on Saturday so that I can make the dress using the pattern I saw here months ago!! I have to go on a 40 mile trip just to get to a decent haberdashery shop!!

    1. Hi Sam, I guess the bead boards work however you want them to. I use mine mostly to keep all the beads from rolling about and to get an idea of what the finished arrangement will look like.

Forty miles to get a zipper?!? Ergh. And here I was bummed because the last sewing store in the area except for Joann’s is going out of business. My nearest Joann’s is 25 minutes away, so no more just popping in to get something. It’s particularly sad that the family store is going out as they’re been in business since 1919 and the third generation is running it now. Shopping online for fabric isn’t nearly as fun as getting to touch it first.

And I’m not planning to eat all that chocolate at once! Just two little squares after lunch and two more after dinner. I’m very disciplined about it. 🙂

  2. I agree, you sit down to make a copy and before you know it, you’ve an original and frankly, totally diffrent piece – love that about just a handful of different supplies! As for the big purple thing – I think your priorities are in order!!

  3. I agree with you we take inspiration but the things become our own… thanks for you nice comments on my blog, however I put the wrong link and those boxes were weeks ago!!! The link should be 38 for THIS week

    1. Haha, well it worked out fine because I’m so happy I saw those boxes, they gave me some great inspiration!

I’ll be sure to head over to see THIS week’s post. 🙂

  4. Looks pretty organised to me, my eye went straight to the chocolate of course, Thanks for sharing.

  5. WOW busy desk!! I Loooovvvveee Trader Joes! I wish we could have one in Oklahoma and the powers that be were trying to get them to come here but Trader Joe’s said they won’t come until OK changes its liquor laws so wine can be sold in the stores. Oklahomas laws are a little antiquated. I bought the fabric to make my dress from the pattern you sent me and when I got it home my daughter said it is too heavy! I went back and bought some soft striped seersucker type material and I am going to cut it out this week end. I really love that dress! Thanks for sharing. Vickie #46
